Technical Contribution

  • Do you (or your company) have any expertise in this technology that you could offer or contribute?

  • Hi Mike,

my team would be interested in helping in this endeavor.

  • Mike,

I just ordered a DELL Inspiron loaded with the latest UBUNTU Linux version 9.10 (my own personal PC).

I downloaded the latest ANDROID build from their open source site and built it.  Took a long time (1/2 a day to download, about 1/2 a day to build)

Anywho, as Scott mentioned, I have the tools and some experience at platforms, so let me (us) know what we can do.

I'll continue to play with it no matter what (on the weekends, of course).  I missed Linux Smile

  • Mike,

I have some hands on experience developing Android applications.

I will be more than glad to help with anything I can.

  • Hello,

I use Linux for my personal computer for 10 years, I have installed Debian armel with Android on a beagleboard : http://beagleboard.org/ , I have some experience on arm cross compiling, linux debugging and embedded systems emulation. I have already tried to port linux on WorkaboutproG2 without success (lack of documentation concerning the hardware adresses and boost).

I would be happy to contribute.

  • I've developed a few apps for Android.  You need to have basic Java skills. You can use Java Eclipse as the IDE, and download the Android plugin and their SDK.  The latest SDK version is 2.2.  Lots of cool features in there.  Programming style is a little different from traditional coding methods.  The UI is build from XML structures, from there you can get a handle to all kinds of Android widgets to manipulate its functionality.   These guys are geniuses, they are quick and produce stuff on the fly.  Watch out!

I would be happy to contrubute too!

Same here. Tried to port Android on netBook Pro. Boost stopped me :(.

    Bertrand,

Did you attempt to load the image, and it didn't run?  Or, did BooSt prevent you?

Out of curiosity, could you post a little bit about the steps you made to build the ANDROID image for the WAPG2?  What sites do you feel were the best for getting an image for a device up and going?

  • The problem with Boost seems to be that you can only load an image of certain predefined size, i. e. the size of the image you are replacing.

I was able to get some sort of Linux on netBook Pro. Can't remember what it was anymore. Here is one link http://psionlinux.blogspot.com/2009/07/how-to-install-linux-on-psion-netbook.html.

  • Hello,

there is a checksum calculated by Boost to verify the image loaded and a operating system code, with the NetbookPro, we can use the Linux Code because a Linux version has been released by PsionTeklogix (PsionLX).

Using custom image with the right checksum is possible, but with the WorkaboutPro, there is no avalaible code to load Linux and with the last releases of Boost, the Os is signed.

However it is possible to load Linux with Haret, which is a WinCe/WinMe bootloader, but with the tests I have done, it was impossible to initialize the graphic stack of the WorkaboutPro.

  • Thanks all for your posts on this topic.  Just want to let you all know that Chris Jakob will be the point person running this project and will start seeing some threads from him.  You can communicate with him through the community or email (chris.jakob@psionteklogix.com)

  • Hey Chris, I can see you are still the guy on "on the edge" projects!  :-)

  • Hi,

I have had succes running a bit of 32 bits Linux under PocketDOS on WinCE/Arm devices. It runs also fine on my NetBook Pro.

The How To is there :
