Hello. A couple of months ago, I bought a Psion Series 5mx, and I am very impressed with this device. I never owned a Psion Series 5 or 5mx device before.
I had a 1GB Lexar CF card, and I copied a folder full of .SIS installation files (various freeware and documents in a separate folder, and I was happily using this card for around two months before problems began. The device kept saying the card was 'corrupt', then it would work a while, then it would state it was corrupt again. I had a 512MB card, which was working fine, but I made the mistake of formatting this with Windows Vista, and the problem started with this card. None of my other PDA devices, or the Vista laptop had any problems with the card, or its contents (not corrupted).
I rely on the Compact Flash card, as I cannot sync my laptop with the Psion Series 5mx, hence I need this to copy over documents and applications that I need. I am happy with this arrangement, but the problems with the Compact Flash card is preventing the 5mx from being usable (for me).
I would be immensely grateful, if someone could tell me the correct procedures for formatting these large (512MB to 2GB) Compact Flash cards...I have tried FAT16, but still get the same problems. What is the optimum software, and does the type or brand of Card Read-Writer make a significant difference?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am a new user of this device, and I need the larger capacity cards to work on the device. Thank you.
try to reformat cards with HP flash disk format utility as FAT16
many of current format partition tools uses a internal windows format utility :o(
my last card used in 5mx was 2GB formatted (partitioned) to 1GB with some acronis disk utility ?? and finally formatted with HP utility
Thank you Tomas!!! Yes, I found freeware software called Active Partition Manager, which has an excellent format utility. This repaired all of my cards, and I have managed to partition a 4GB card into two 2GB cards, and this works. I am very grateful for your help.
