It's very early days with it and we're testing the readability of the tags through material etc.

I've installed the CAEN demo annd wedge. When using the demo, the WAPG3 reads the tags no problem. How do we go about getting this into an application eg wordpad etc?
I aasume it's not as simple as reading a barcode eg at the moment, we can be in wordpad and press the trigger button and the barcode will be read into wordpad. Is it possible to do the same with Rfid?

Are there any starting out demo's, docs etc?

in my RFID project I'm using a PSION WAP3 with a TagSys Medion S002 Reader. I'm still evaluating the option to develep the application for this device in Java. For this I need to develop a "Java driver" for this reader implementing the calls to the Medion STX DLL in a Java class via JNI. I want this "Java driver" to be most complete in regard to the functions delivered by the Medion STX DLL, so I need to understand what each function in the DLL is intended to do.

My biggest problem is the the "Medio STX Windows DLL Programmin Guide" in most cases just refers to the "Medio S001/S002 Reader Command Set" in this way: "Call <C++ function header> to execute the Medio S001/S002 <Command Name> command", but also in the Command Set documentation there is no more detailed description of the behaviour of the command. Sometimes, expecially for the ISO15693 commands there is nothing at all in the Command Set documentation.

Here are my questions:

1) Addressing the reader
Function like MSTX_SetAddress, S00X_SetReaderAddress & S00X_GetReaderAddress imply that there could be more than one reader and you have to address the driver before giving a command to it. However the function MSTX_Open(UINT Portnb, UINT Baud, UINT Mode) only opens one connection to one reader via a serial port. I cannot find any explanation on the concept of having multiple readers.

2) General functions
I'm not able to find detailed description on the behaviour of the following functions:
S00X_DefineType
S00X_BoradStatus
S00X_Sleep
S00X_RFControl
What are they good for? In which case do I use them?

3) My finaly applicaiton will most possible only uses ISO15693 transponders. The transponders I used so far all report the block size and number of blocks in the response to the command "Get System Information". In my opinion by this I already have all information needed to read or write to a block. What is the use the of the following functions:
S00X_SetUplinkISO15693
S00X_SetDownlinkISO15693
S00X_SetMemoryMapISO15693

4) ISO15693 commands implemented by S00X_ReadBlockISO15693 and S00X_WriteBlockISO15693
To me it's unclear if the above mentioned Read/Write functions implement the Read/WriteSingleBlock (0x20, 0x21) or Read/WriteMultipleBlocks (0x23, 0x24)

5) Problems retreiving 16 slot inventory
S00X_InventoryISO15693 works fine in my tests using a one slot inventory, but if I try to use a 16 slot inventory for each slot "No Transponder in the field" is reported. Why?

Kind regards

As you know this module provides 500 mW RF output. We have been working at this power and everything worked ok till now, but today it no longer works at high powers, it does not read any tag when set from 100 mW to 500 mW and the application seems to be stuck for a while, however, It does read tags when the power is set to Low power (10 -50 mW).

The point where it seems to start working improperly was the following: it was while reading a high amount of tags (30 tags inside a bag), but I do not think this is cause of the failure.

We have reset the handheld (warm and cold boot) and no success. Battery is 60% of total. Anyway, we have cradled the handheld and no success.

Do you have any idea why this is happening?

Is it possible the RF power electronics are damaged somehow?
Is there any software to diagnose what is happening ?

Regards,

we decide to use the 500 mW CAEN UHF Module (circular and/or linear)

I understand that there are different modules available for US and Europe. In the discussion forum I found some infos, that these modules are also certified for other countries like Peru. Every than and now I am asked if the PSION RFID Reader is certified in country "XYZ"..

Maybe there is list available for which countries the different UHF RFID modules are certified ?

If not I would be glad to know if any Modul is certified for Brazil, Russia, India, Korea or China.

Thanks in advance for your efforts.

We would like to pilot the RFID reader directly by sending and receiving frames via the COM1 port (RS232).
(We cannot use the CAEN SDK, that's why we need to pilot the COM1 port)

We are able to connect to and open the COM1 port.
We are able to send frames without error.

However, it seems we can't manage to send proper frames, because we don't receive response...

In order to make some tests, would someone of you be able to give us an example of simple frame, as reading one tag for example ?
And/or explain how the frame must be encoded ?

We need to supply WAPs with UHF RFID readers to a customer in South Africa. It looks from the GS1 website as if EU and US frequency ranges are both permitted. Which frequency would Psion supply / suggest for South Africa, or doesn't it matter either way?

Is it possible to use this button for that purpose?

Currently we are using a button on one of our forms to start scanning.

Thanks in advance.
