How to re-create the LANNDS1 connection on a Psion NEO

  • Is there a method to re-create the LANNDS1 connection on a Psion NEO device, connected to a four way Ethernet dock?

    Previously the connection was available but after having rebooted the device and gone into a "clean operating system" (unsure as to the exact terminology to use here) there are no network connection available any more.

    Is it possible to re-create the LANNDS1 connection as we are now unable to connect to the device using Ethernet?

  • Good morning Richard

    As per paragraph 3.2 of the NEO PX3004 Handheld Computer Quad Desktop Dock and Charger User Manual

    Ethernet connection will be made when:

    • The NEO terminal is in the docking station;

    • The docking station is powered by the Power Adapter;

    • The docking station is connected to Ethernet network using a Category 5 cable plugged into the RJ45 rear socket.

    The rear-mounted RJ45 connector incorporates a green Link LED that flashes to indicate the presence of data traffic. The yellow Speed LED is steady ON when the network is 100 Mbps and OFF when the network is 10 Mbps.

    Kind regards,
    Jacques

  • Thanks Jacques, all three of those conditions have been met:

    1. The NEO terminal is in the docking station (verified by removing the device and re-inserting it, we see the dialog box confirming that it is connected to the docking station) also by the system tray icon on the device to indicate its docked.
    2. The docking station is definitely powered, the light on the NEO device indicates that it is charging.
    3. The docking station is connected with a CAT5 Ethernet cable, it was working prior to the reboot and the ethernet cable has not been removed nor removed from the network switch it's connected to.
    Is there anything else we can do?
  • What are the status of the RJ45 Green and Yellow LEDs when connected to an active network?

  • Hi Richard.

    What Firmware is running on the NEO in question:

    Windows CE 5.0?

    or

    Windows Mobile 6.1 Classic?

    (I am reckoning from Prior posts, that it is Windows CE, but if it IS Windows Mobile -- Don't forget the Add-On.Cab file, if you have clean started the NEO.)

  • Hi Jacques, the green power LED is lit green and constantly on, the green and yellow lights surrounding the RJ45 port are both lit as well, occasionally winking, but generally just lit up as if there was virtually no data being transferred. Hope that helps.

  • Hi Sean, it's running Windows CE.NET version 5.00, are there any further actions when restarting a device with this operating system?

  • I couldn't see an obvious way to delete this thread, I have got this working again by rebooting the NEO device using a slightly different method that has re-enabled the network, thanks to both of the people who responded to this thread but this issue is now closed.

  • Don't want to delete the thread Richard - its all valuable info for anyone else that might experience the same as you. Smile  Thanks for following up!

  • I agree with Lee, this thread is good to keep.

    Richard, did you need to "Warm Reset" the NEO to get the network adapter back so you could turn it on?

  • Hi Sean, I carried out a reset by pressing the Scan+Blue+Enter keys, previously I'd selected option "!" from the resulting menu but "1" took the device back into a state where the network connection was present.

  • Another option is to use "Cold Boot" from the start menu on Windows CE 5.0.

    "!" is the clean start. If Total Recall is setup with a profile, the NEO would be brought back to whatever state the device was configured for when the Total Recall backup was run.
