MCC Server IP Address Changing

  • Hi,

Is it possible to change the IP address of MCC server with minimial interruption?

    Any precautions?

    Best Regards,

  • Hello,

If the terminals currently connect to the MCC server using a DNS name, there shouldn't be an issue (assuming the DNS host record is updated along with the IP address).  You may need to allow time for the terminal's DNS cache to clear.  Rebooting the terminal will force the terminal to perform the DNS lookup again and update the cache.

If the terminals currently connect tot he MCC server using a static IP address, it will be important to deploy the new server IP address to all the terminals before the change takes place, otherwise the terminals will not be able to connect to the server.

You can determine how the terminals connect to the server by looking at the Server Properties.  On the deployment server tab, locate the server which will be changing the IP address, right click the icon and choose Server Properties.  The method used by terminals to connect to the server is under the heading 'Device Agent Connection Settings'.

If the terminals are connecting by IP address, you have the option to enable an "Alternate Fully Qualified Domain Name / IP Address".  Configure the new planned IP address in this field.  Once you click OK, the new address will be deployed to devices that are online or according to the update schedule.  Change the server IP once you have allowed time for all device to connect to the server in the current configuration and obtain the updated address.
