Do we need to have a Controller or OTT on our devices when working with Navis N4?
N4 was designed to be used on HTML clients. So, the quick answer is no, you do not need a controller and / or OTT. You’ll need Internet Explorer. The use of an IE does elliminate Narrowband and therefore N4 is only supporting WiFi systems.
However, if your customer wants Narrowband then Navis needs to deploy their Radio Server. This is a server they used to implement with Navis Sparcs. We have several install running with this configuration. In this situation you’ll need a controller and OTT.
Believe it or not I (we) have actually implemented Navis HTML (not sure if it is N4) at a very large port in New Jersey using a controller/narrow band and TekHTML and it works along side their legacy software so they have not completely transiitoned to the NAVIS product. It is optimally run in Wifi however if you have a customer you can win or maintain by using TekHTML it is certainly something you can consider.
Thanks guys
we use N4 mobile with all the ports in south africa
I have a problem with Navis N4 test by using SW9510L (Demo) and OTT on Psion 8515 (WiFi). The application could not show on 8515 which always "Lock-H" message. But if we try another way to use ANSI/Telnet (Nuartech) direct to the Host Server (Port 23) so this is working and terminal can have the login page on screen.
I have discuss with someone and I get the infomation that the Navis N4 had design for 2 versions. 1. for Psion Teklogix and 2. for LXE or other (use Telnet)
So this is correct, right? How do I know that the customer implemented which version? I asked them and they don't know about this case.
Please advice.
Hi Thatchakorn,
Here in the Philippines we have a port that uses Navis Sparcs N4 since 2010. As it is true that Navis N4 has both capabilities for Psion and LXE (Honeywell), I think that for N4 both are working simultaneously (this is for our case here in the country). They uses both the Psion connectivity (using TESS) and ANSI/Telnet or direct connection to host.
Hope this information helps.

Hi Ed,
Thanks for info, we have encouter the problem when we want to use OTT instead of Nuartech emulator. The OTT configured by TESS but not work. I try another connection type ANSI/Telnet which the result also not work. Lastly, Nuartech use telnet direct to Host at port 23 which this is work to show the application screen.
Still need the solution.
