what would be best HW for the Wireless (SS) for the open area. We have aprox 700 meter open area and we want to cover it via 9160 G2 with 5 DB outdoor
anteena. Is there any other Specific anteena or access point for this?
Thanks & Regards
The 5dBi outdoor antenna that I think you are referring to is an omnidirectional antenna. You mentioned a 700 meter open area. Is that a 700 meter radius around the 9160 G2 antenna location, or is it a 350 meter radius (700 meter diameter), or is the area to be covered more complex (like a long thin strip for example)? Can you give more details about buildings, obstacles, transport containers or other factors that might affect the choice?
Its 350 Mr Radious and basically its vehicle dispatch area for the Motor Mfg Plant, We need to cover the entire area for the WLAN and we are looking for some high capacity antenna that woulb be copatible to 9160 G2, Its there any choice to use greater that 5DBI Antenna.
There is no obstraction and you can consider its green field only. Let me know the specification of the HW as well that can be use for the same environment.
Maxrad makes an 8 dBi and a 10 dBi antenna.
We have the following high gain omnis for use at 2.4GHz:
- 9001677, 8dBi, 12 deg electrical down-tilt, 13 deg VHBW (vertical half power beam width) . The 12 deg down allows you to mount the antenna high to clear obstacles and still get coverage on the ground.
- 96219, 12dBi, 7 deg. This one has extremely compressed pattern so it will project the signal farther out but you will need to mount it lower.
If indeed the sight is "greenfield" then the 12dBi omni mounted 6-9m above ground will give better performance. But if the sight will be filled with vehicles or containers later on then the 8dBi with 12deg electrical down-tilt mounted at 30-34m height will probably be better.
Another approach is to set up several base stations on the perimeter and use panel antennas pointed downward, this allows you to customize the coverage area but cost is higher.
Hope this helps.

I am attaching the site area for your referencee ...
There is nothing in Site Images folder.
I am still awaiting for your feedback!! Apart from this i just want to know the feasibility of the WLAN Solution using Outdoor Antenna for open area. Can anyone tell me the adv and disadvantages for such kind of infrastructure
Your attachment is empty that's why we can not comment further.
Whatever antenne you select, be aware to keep the antenna cables as short as possible. This to prevent signal loss.
There is no magic in wireless, neither in the antenna's.
Open air = weather conditions will impact the signal. If you like it or not.
So, be carefull and don't give too optimistic ideas. Be realistic.
Regarding your question on the feasibility of the WLAN Solution using Outdoor Antenna for open area, it is very feasible and our Field Service group do it all the time. Typically the higher the Antenna the better, so choosing a High gain Direction antenna such as the Sector we offer is very popular. It also depends on the Height of your tallest obstruction and How may poles you have available to use. If you have multiple Poles through the Yard with Power, then you can strategically place the AP's in the Yard and possibly get away with Omni antennas. As mentioned above the shorter the antenna cable the better, or you will need to use a LMR 600 or LMR 900 antenna cable to control the loss. Typically a NEMA rated box is required for the installation of the AP outdoors as well.
Regardless of the method, the recomendation of above for a Site Survey by a qualified person is strongly recommended, its a different ball game when doing outdoor wireless.
