Overview

The act of connecting an 8530 G2 or 8525 G2 (85xx) to an external 12 V battery as an external power source is not a simple act of plug and run. There are details that need be considered so that the usage does not harm either the computer or battery. For example, overuse (e.g. deep discharge) of the battery may reduce the life of the battery.

We are working on further documentation to help communicate issues that should be taken into consideration.

Install Considerations

  1. A new 30 Ah cart battery will provide 8 hrs of continuous use for the 85xx VM computer.
             a.  Any addition loading by accessory(s) may reduce the number of continuous hours of use.
             b.  As the battery ages the number of continuous hours of use will decrease.
             c.  The useful life of the battery is dependent on the number of cycles and the depth of discharge.
             d.  Discharging the battery for the full 8 hrs puts the maximum strain on the battery; expected useful life is approximately 1.2 years. Longer life can be achieved by shorter continuous use and more frequent charging.
             e.  A minimum of 8 hr charging is required to replenish a 30 Ah battery after 8 hrs of continuous use.

      2.   We recommend the Interacter II  charger part number (TBD) to replenish the battery. When the battery requires replenishing it is disconnected from the cart and the charger is connected to the battery.
      3.   Cable kit is available to connect the 85xx to battery.
      4.   Customer is expected to supply the cart as per their needs. We do not sell carts.
      5.   There is no provision for battery charge state and maintaining and charging the battery is the responsibly of the customer. The 85xx does not provide indication of low external battery or when to recharge. Basically this is not a fully automatic system.
