A.R.C. connection problems

This question is not answered

Hello,

I just installed ARC with newest release and imported configuration from my colleague. Afterwards I was trying to discover some devices via WLAN and active sync / Windows mobile Centre. I also tested a lot of different interfaces, but no success. Does anyone have the same problems with Windows 7 Enterprise?

Yours,

Tobias

  • Hello Tobias,

    There are 2 likely possibilities:

    1. The Windows firewall is blocking the connection. Try disabling temporarily.

    2. The device is not able to resolve the server address that ARC is sending it. Try changing the "Server Interface" value under the Connection Settings menu.

  • Hello Kevin,

of course I already tried to change interfaces and I already ended Windows Firewall and Symantec Endpoint Protection. Now I already uninstalled ARC and re-installed it afterwards. ARC is reaching 7535G2 or Omni XT-10 (symbol appears in task bar), but it does not appear on discovered devices. It even is not recognized while connected via USB cable and PDM.

On device I get the following error message in Windows\ARC:

So can you tell me what I can do else?

  • That error is usually caused when the address can not be contacted.

If you take the addresses (ignore the 192.168.55.100 ActiveSync address) from the error messages and put them in a browser window (either on your device or on your PC) do you see an error?

  • Hello Kevin,

when I open the browser I can see a logo of IIS7 with a link to Microsoft behind it.

  • This sounds like something may not be set up properly in IIS...

Could you review the IIS section of the ARC install guide found here:

    http://community.psion.com/knowledge/w/knowledgebase/1188.a-r-c-manuals-instruction-sheets.aspx

Check to see if all the required IIS options are enabled.

  • so yesterday I checked like written in PDF and installed ASP.net components. Then I restarted software, but no success. Afterwards I uninstalled and re-installed ARC completely (incl. delete of folders c:\program files\... but still no success

So what can I do else?

    Yours,

    Tobias

  • After IIS is set up and ARC is installed, if you browse (on the same machine) to the addresses from your log you should see something like the following image.

If not it is probably best that you contact your local help desk directly.

  • First attempt with the picture failed... attempt 2:

  • I only get the following error:

  • I noticed the /ARC.WebServices/service.asmx part is missing from the address. Try adding that after the IP.

  • Hello Kevin,

so now I re-entered the Adress and I get the following error message:

    Service unavailable

HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

  • This points to either IIS not being set up properly or ARC not being installed properly.

I recommend you contact your local help desk. They can provide more in depth help.

  • Hi Kevin,

I'm dealing with the same issue on my ARC installation with a 8515 (OS version B160) and ARC Version 4.0.1.3096. I'm quite sure that all is properly installed on my XP PC based ARC instruction. I think there is a bug and you should be able to simulate it easely but let me know if you need I check something more. By the way, is there a ticket created somewhere or do we have to create one ?

Thanks for your help as this is a common issue raised by other users and critical for the field people or customers

  • Hi Jose,

I don't know if a ticket has been created.  If a ticket has been created it hasn't been escalated yet. This thread seems to have been left hanging.

The error seems to point to an error with IIS.  According to this (document for newer version of IIS but I'm sure it is still valid):

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/library/iis/55f71614-ef1b-4015-b9c8-a42c1e700c25.mspx?mfr=true

An error 503 is either a configuration or resource problem.

Please go through help desk as I think this will require more in-depth analysis than is really practical through this forum. I haven't heard of this being a common problem... If you have information about this please give it to help desk so we can give this issue the appropriate priority.
