Water Meters with 868 MHz free “ISM Band“

This question is answered

We are asked to provide solution for meter reading of Water Meters. Meters are product of Austrian EWT and communicate wirelessly on 868 MHz free ISM Band. They are using readers and then transfer readouts via Bluetooth to some Pocket PC.

Is there third party reader for WorkaboutPRO or EP10? We want to about that "Bluetooth reader".

Tx.

  • My brief look appears to suggest that EWT use these: http://www.diehl.com/en/diehl-metering/products-solutions/water-metering/ewt.html

"Almost all our water meters are equipped with interfaces for automatic meter reading (AMR) — over radio or cable to the M-Bus and Open Metering Standard."

I think you need to find a bluetooth M-Bus reader - I found a few when looking on Google.

  • Hello Koce,

I expect that the water meters are communicating using an RFID standard in the UHF (868 MHz) spectrum.  If this is the case, I would like to direct you to the International RFID Product Guide that can be found on our Knowledge Base (linked below).  This guide can help you choose an appropriate RFID solution for the WORKABOUT PRO, 753x G2, Neo, or Omnii XT10 handhelds in the Europe and elsewhere worldwide.

If the water meter is not using an RFID standard, it may require a proprietary reader which in turn communicates to the terminal using Bluetooth.   Assuming the Bluetooth communication takes the form of serial communication, any Bluetooth enabled Psion terminal should be able to communicate with the reader.

  • Hello Koce,

Long time no talk, hope you've been doing well!!!

Concerning your request, please take a look at the following products:

    1007.AMCO_VersaProbe.pdf

    4034.VersaProbe.pdf

    7750.VersaProbe1.pdf

Essentially they are the same product manufactured by Northrop but the attached documents will provide you with different contacts supplier wise.

Bear in mind that the VersaProbe does interface with the Workabout Pro. I cannot say the same about the EP10 as I am not sure if we (or the manufacturer) have had a chance to test it with this new device.

    Kind regards,

  • Zdravo,

    Pozdrav,

    Koce
