EP10 Weird BB Cable Behavior

This question is not answered

Hi all,

I'm confused because I need to connect my EP10 to the PC Network using a BB USB Cable, but the weird issue its that the Cable gives me Internet Only but I cant access Network Resources, do I need to use the EP10 Cable instead BB Cable? sound really weird just Internet works, I moved all the configurations in the EP10 to give Network Access, if someone knows some configuration that I need to do really appreciate the help.

Thanks

Mike

  • Hi Mike,

I just tested this here and got it working.  If you are using Windows Mobile Device Center you will have to perform the following steps:

    1. Select "Mobile Device Settings"
    2. Open "Connection Settings"
    3. Change "This computer is connected to:" from "Automatic" to "Work Network"
    4. Click OK
    5. Then to verify it is working you will use an EP10 to Activesync to the PC
    6. Open Internet Explorer
    7. In the address bar type the network share
    8. You should get prompted for a username, password and domain.
    9. Enter these values and you should get an option to save the credentials
    10. Then the network share should be accessible.

Here is a screenshot from my EP10:

  • Nop, still not working, I opened the File Explorer Menu at the Open Path option (I did that before) and doesnt works. I have Internet on the EP10 shared from the PC (weird doesnt it ?), Do I am miss some extra configuration at the EP10???, I have another Psion Machine (Ikon) and I can enter to my PC without problems, Im doing the same steps in the EP10 and not works...

  • Hi Mike,

Just got it working here using my work PC Windows XP Pro SP3 with MS ActiveSync ver 4.5.0.

If I may suggest, connect the USB cable directly to the computer bypassing any external USB hubs or other similar external USB ports.

In my case, it worked after I used the USB port at the back of my PC. The ones at the front will not work correctly when trying to access network resources.

  • I forgot to mention that my EP10 is running OS version 3.0

And when you try to access the network PC, use its hostname instead of its IP address

  • Only One way to check Mike.

(Temporarily) Turn off both the Phone and Wireless capability in "Wireless Manager",  Leave the EP10 unplugged from your Windows PC (Is it Win7, or Vista?)

Check that it does not have connection to the Internet (Open Internet Explorer, when it fails, Use [Menu] scroll down to Exit, and exit Internet Explorer.

Then connect the MicroUSB (BB) cable, and wait for everything to connect. Then open IE, and see if it gets out. (I suggest testing the Network Share from the Windows PC {laptop} to make sure it can get to it from your PC.)

The open your network share (Or try at least, using the WINS Name.) If that does not work; try using the TCP/IP literal address  -- like -- \\10.20.30.40\myfileshare\myfiles

If the literal comes up with a login dialog, then the EP10 needs to be registered to the Domain. You also can look at WINS name resolution configuration from Microsoft. (sigh)  If Both the literal and the WINS name do not come up (yet you can go out to the Internet) then the config issue with with Mobile Device Connection software (What Activesync moved to for Vista/Win7) and you may need to consult MSDN/Microsoft forum sites to configure from there.

  • Sad do you mind trying another USB activesync cable?

I can't seem to replicate the problem here...

Also, do you have a second PC to test with?
