Omnii XT10 will not boot

This question is not answered

Hi,

I had a Omnii XT10. It had power on issue. Cannot boot.

I had tried to take the micro-sd card to put to my laptop to check, but it shows "Disk is not formatted, do you want to format it now".

Had anyoneencounter this issue before? is this normal?

If i format it, where can i reload the OS for the unit?

  • Hello ,

The unit has to be able to get power in order to do OS upgrade. The OS upgrade can be done via micro SD card that should be inserted in the slot inside of this unit. How ever , in your case , you need to be able to turn the unit on first.

    You can try :

    1. Booting unit into boost by pressing and holding blue , enter and scan button simultaneously

    2. Try different battery

    3. Try powering it on while it is in the docking station .

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

The unit is not able to power on. I think the SD card is faulty, or the board is faulty.

The orange light is permanent on with battery and cradle, but does not boot.

Anyway we can reload the OS or do a hardware reset?

  • HI

sometime, i have the same problem.

    you can try this

    remove the batterie

make a short cut between the pin on the terminal battery connector (not on the battery, i use a usb key to do it)

put a battery and make an hard reset (blue enter scan)

if you afraid by the shortcut. let the terminal without battery for 24h

  • If you are going to short the battery connectors or remove the battery from the terminal for over 15 minutes, when you put the battery back into the terminal you should see the LED on the top left side of the display bezel light up.  Do yo see this LED light up?  What color is it and how long does it stay on or flash?

I will also note, if you want to perform a hard reset, press and hold the SYM + FN + Power for about 6 seconds.  The LEDs on the top left of the display bezel should blink and then you should see the left LED turn orange as the terminal starts to boot.  If this does not happen, please tell me what happens with the LEDs.

If the LEDs do not light up at all with any of the above suggestions the Omnii will need to be sent to a Service Depot.

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you so much for your post.

As I see while putting the battery back in the terminal, an orange light (2nd from left) lit up for about 4-5 seconds but it doesn't boot to the desktop.

Trying hard reset also gave the similar result.

    Please advise...

    Much appreciated,

    Bava

  • Hi Bava,

The orange LED indicates that the Omnii is chaning power states, trying to boot/resume from suspend or power down.  This means that the lower level processors are working but for some reason the main processor is not booting.

Can you boot to BooSt (press and hold FN + Scan + Power for 6 seconds)?  If you can, you may want to cleanstart your device (type .25326 at BooSt menu) and see if returning the terminal to factory defaults help resolve the problem.  If this does not work you should contact a Psion Help Desk or Service Center.

  • Which MicroSD card did you remove from the terminal? The only user accessible card is underneath the battery, and that should work with a PC. The card on the Main Logic Board will not work with a PC and should NOT be formatted. It is essential to the operation of the device and must be present for it to boot.

  • Hi,

The problem micro-SD card is the one under the LCD display. The one that contain the OS of the Omnii, not the one under the battery.

The OS will have to be reloaded into the micro-SD card under the display for it to work as the OS is corrupted. This process can only be done by the Psion ASC.
