Re-Discover an equipment "again" in ARC

This question is answered

Hy everybody.

Here I am again with some doubts about ARC (which is not really odd).

I would like to know how do you manage to make ARC serve discover again an equipment after you have load a Taks to disable beacon  with ARC or you just have a problem when you loose your connection with ARC

I mean, each time I have a problem with a wrong loaded Task in the terminal  or in case I loose connection with my equipment  (wrong configuration in my network connection) I am not able to discover again. Same problem when I use task  "Configure ARC Client" and select Disable Beacon, Clear Site Id etc. I know this specific Task make the ARC not to be discovered by future beacons from ARC server.

My question is,; if I want to discover again the equipment is there any way I can change or delete some keys in the registry which allow ARC server to discover again the equipment?.

My actual solution is to make a main cleaning in the equipment. I was figthing in the Registry Keys looking for anything relation with the ARC, changing values, erase values, etc but I wasn´t susccess.

I need a fast way to make my equipment  "visible" again in ARC server each time I loose connection letting aside the option of the main cleaning which is not a viable one.

As always I´m eagering to hear from your knowledge.

Thanks in advance for your help

  • Hi Juan.

I beleive the fastest way to do what you are asking after you disable the Network Beacon on the Terminal is to connect the Device to ARC via Activesync.

If ARC is running on a Laptop device, this is pretty straightforward. If the HHT is a Handheld device then bring the device to the ARC server. If you have VMT devices, then you either need to undo the device or connect it to the ARC server in-plant. If it is running on a Server in a difficult to reach location then you may need to connect the terminal using USB = CAT5 extender, or Via USBoIP soultion such as this: http://www.digi.com/pdf/fs_realportusb.pdf  In this manner, you can connect the ActiveSync to the ARC server and connect the HHT to undo your changes.

That or CLEAN start the device, and re-provision.

  • Is there a reason you are disabling beacon listening?

When you do this you are telling the device NOT to respond to a beacon.  If there is any chance that you are going to want to talk to the device via ARC again you should not set that parameter.

Typically you would clean boot the device to remove this. If you really need to undo it, delete the DisableBeacons value under HKLM\Services\TotalRecall\ARC and reboot the device.

Hi Kevin. Thanks for your comment.

I´m aware of disabling beacon means not response to the beacon. I just were making some test and wondering how to recover the equipment to be discover by beacon once i disable the beacon. When I delete the value under  HKLM\Services\TotalRecall\ARC  and restart the equipment it still were not discover by the beacon. Perhaps I did somenthing wrong. I have to double check it

As I said before, during my several test sometimes my tasks didn´t work fine and I loose connection via ARC with my terminal. I wondered if deletening some value in the registry key it could makes the terminal to be discovered again. Deleting ARC folder and some keys in the registry were not enough.

By the way, thanks a lot for your advises. Active Sync will be the best way to have access to my terminal again.

  • Removing that value should restore support for beacon listening.... has the Site ID changed?  What other registry values do you see under HKLM\Services\TotalRecall\ARC?

  • Hi again. I think I removed that value and there were no other value in HKLM\Services\TotalRecall\ARC. I have to check.

    Thanks for your concern,
