I've got a bunch of pretty old WAP G1s with GPRS modems. Since my customer changed mobile providers about half of the modems are working fine while the rest are stuck at status "Emergency calls only" (but with really good signal). I've tried different SIM cards from different carriers and swapping the modems between devices and the problem is 100% consistent on the modems which have the problem.
All the modems (good and bad) have Manufacturer CMCS, Model NTN-000, Rev. 0.850. I've tried the modems in devices running OS versions A057k, D266q, A268p and I261k; some devices show the modem driver version as 1.00000, others as 1.00013. With I261k I found that the device wouldn't turn back on after a warm reset (but started worked fine again if I downgraded them to an older version of the OS).
Can anyone suggest anything to try?
I261k is actually the oldest of the OS images you tested. I would use the most recent one - A268p (date codes are explained here ).
I am somewhat puzzled by the fact that all the modem showing the problem have the same firmware revision. You could post WWANDbg logs for both a good and a bad device (instructions for obtaining a WWANDbg log are here ). Make sure that you use the same SIM card in both devices and that they have the same OS date code.
Thanks for your suggestions - I'm pretty sure now that two of the modems are defective.
The remaining modems all work consistently, although I do have to disable automatic WWAN configuration and manually activate a profile after a cold reset (the customer uses a private APN).
As for I261k, that comes from the CE4.2 image on the download site - http://community.psion.com/downloads/firmwaresoftware__demos/m/handheld_computers_workabout_pro/1585.aspx. I've read about Psion data codes before, and I guess it's not possible to distinguish between 2001 and 2011.
I261k is release 7.19 and the most recent system software available for Workabout Pro G1 (7525) Windows CE 4.2.
D266q is released 7.0
A057k is released 7.4
A268p is released 7.13
Also, there is no 2001 build for WAP G1 since it was launched Year 2004/ 05
