7535g2...How to change touch screens

  • I have 2 non-working 7535g2's . Both are out of warranty .One has a problem detecting the wireless card (UNIDENTIFIED PCCARD ADAPTER ) which I believe needs to be sent in to be repaired.

The other one just has a broken/cracked touch-screen,everything else works just fine. I would like to move the innards of this one to the shell of the other one, and at least get one working for now. I have switched them over, but the touchscreen is still not working. It appears that the unit with the broken touch screen was set up with a 5 wire touchscreen  and the other unit was set up with a 4 wire touchscreen. ( this is what shows in the terminal configuration in the touch panel listing)

Can anyone give me any details on how to change the setup on the unit  ie change the  5 wire setting to a 4 wire setting as just switching the screens is not working.

    Many thanks,

    CB

  • Hi Chris,

To change the type of touch screen that is installed in a 7535g2 you must also set a BooSt flag.  BooSt is the Psion boot loader.  If you want to verify how your terminal is currently configured you can hold down the scan + blue + Enter for 6 seconds which will cause the 7535 to boot to our BooSt menu.  Then select option 3 to 'Show configuration'.  Note the 'Touch panel' type.

Here is a BooSt script to configure your 7535g2 to work with a 4 wire touch screen.

Here is a BooSt script to configure your 7535g2 to work with a 5 wire touch screen.

To install these BooSt scripts use the following process:

    1. Copy the file to a USB stick, rename the file to 'pxa27x.img'
    2. Boot your terminal to BooSt (press and hold scan + blue + Enter)
    3. Install your 7535\7530 into a PDM and then insert the USB stick
    4. The script should install and then cold boot to WinCE.
    5. Use the process noted above to check the BooSt flag

Please let me know if this works for you.

As you have stated these devices are out of warranty and remember that if you are not an Authorized Service Center hardware modifications like this will void any warranty that may be left and may also cause further problems servicing the hardware if they need to be returned to an Authorized Service Center in the future.

  • That worked just perfectly.

    Thank you Paul.
