Problem accessing folders on our LAN

Problem accessing folders on our LAN

This question is not answered

I'm using a Psion Teklogix device with Windows CE 6.0 installed.  I use to be able to access folders on our LAN from the device with no problems but now, all of a sudden, I'm getting the following message: Bad Network Path.  Check to see if the path is typed correctly...  I can ping our server from the Psion device and I can ping the device from other machines on the network.  I can access the server using http://<server_ip_address> but not if I use \\ServerName\ShareName

I recently did a routine network password change per our company policy and I think there might be a permissions issue as a result.  I'm new to Win CE so I'm not sure how to tell the Psion machine who I am and what my new password is.  Any suggestions?  Thanks much in advance.

  • you should be prompted with a dialog box to supply the credentials to access the network share.

When you say you can ping the server are you using ping  "servername"  or ping "serveripaddress"

What does the command net view \\servername   return ?

what is the output of ipconfig /all  ?

I am suspecting a name resolution issue .

  • I was able to ping the servername.  However, when I try it now I get "Bad IP address (null)

However, I do get results when I ping the address.

net view servername returns headings only with nothing below.

    ipconfig /all returns:

    IP Address ................. 100.34.80.1

    Mask.............................255.255.0.0

    Gateway......................100.34.1.1

    Adapter Name...........SDIO86861

    Adapter Index..............2

    Address.......................00 0b 6c c0 39 6

    DHCP Enabled..........No

    Primary WinsServer..100.34.20.5

    Secondary.................100.2.20.6

    Host Name................PTX7545

    Domain Name........johnmorrell.,com

    DNS Servers............100.34.20.5  and 192.168.249.20

    Node Type..............8

    Routing Enabled..No

    Hope this sheds some light.

  • is that a comma in the domain name  ? I assume it is retrieved  from the DHCP server.

Can you ping servername.johnmorrell.com   ?  can you access the share using the fully qualified name ?

  • Quick edit.  I mistakenly said  could ping the server name.  I can only ping the server address.

  • The comma is a typo.  (Haven't figured out copy pasta in Win CE yet).

I can ping johnmorrell.com without a server name prefixed to it.

    I cannot access \\ServerName\ShareName

  • I have the same problem. Any news?

  • Hi Michelle,

What Psion device do you have? (ex. Omnii CE or WM? EP10?...)

  • Hello Jim,

Are you attempting to connect to the server using the fully qualified name (DNS) or a friendly name (WINS)?

Is the server on the same IP subnet as the terminal?

Friendly name lookups can be performed using a local lookup table, a subnet broadcast, or a WINS server.  If the server name is not found using these methods, the connection will not be possible.

DNS lookups require that the DNS server be available.  Are you able to connect to other hosts by the DNS name?  Can you ping the DNS servers IP address?
