Oval Is Certainly Not OPL!

Oval Is Certainly Not OPL!

This question is answered

Hi Jacques,

I keep running into walls!

Thanks for the links to Oval.  However on trying to get into it, I see that you'd need to be REALLY good at VB to use it (I'm not) and you'd need to know how to make it do what you want on a Workabout specifically. I'd be about 90 years old by the time I learned all that! It is nothing like OPL.  Databases mentioned and implemented the examples are VB, not Psion. So...

I tried the OPL example, replete with SCANM.OPL etc but didn't get anywhere at all as the Workabout refused to translate them ("#define" gives syntax err).

Delving further into "8168.Scansdk.pdf" I dug out an example in OPL, but again I got errors with "Name Too Long" ("TIMEOUTBEEP").  Looking for this being defined elsewhere, I found it defined in SCANM.OPL and that its corresponding *.OPO had (unlike OPLSCAN.OPO) been recognised on the Workabout.  But of course now I'm screwed again as SCANM.OPL contains the dreaded "#define" statements, so it too can't be modified and subsequently translated.

I'm stuck.  How do I translate and run the OPL examples in the "2570.scanopl.zip" file?

  • OPL translator on the device is not able to handle #define and .OPH header files. You must use ODE tool on the PC.

  • A-ha, so where do I obtain such software?  The machine in question is a Workabout MX 2MB.

  • Good question, but I do not the answer :) Somebody from Psion should answer this...

  • Good morning all,

To the best of my knowledge, we unfortunalely no longer have any SIBO OPL SDK (Part Nº 1505 0010 03) in stock.

May be one of our partners / VARs still has one...

    Kind regards,
    Jacques

  • Hi Jacques,

Sad news indeed.  Would you have a list of such people?

  • let try this

    http://www.general-files.com/download/gs557ce859h32i0/s3atran.zip.html

    (no guarantees)

Other posibility is to rewrite the source code and replace all #define with constants or variables }not easy work :)

    regards,

    Michal

  • I'll just have to go out there and look for Psion partners that still sell it I guess.  Thanks anyway guys.

  • I am still stocking a lot Psion PDA items (Serie 1, II, 3, 5mx, 7), check out www.pulster.eu - contact my for OPL SDK, I have a original copy for sale. Chris
