7530 missing Windows Start and dot.net

  • Hello friends,

ich have some 7530 devices where i am missing the windows start button in the taskbar and obviously some software like the dot.net components..

how can i restore the win ce 4.2?

i have allready established a connection via usb and the removable device drive is available.

i do not know, if i now just can copy only the 753x_CE42_Base_6.17.368_B087u.img to the device now and reboot.

Or how do i have to do to get the win ce 4.2 restored?

    Thanks sa lot

  • Allow me to update this unanswered issue - I have a 7535-G2 here which has no Start button on the upper left corner.

Flashing the newewst System, BooSt clean start nor erasing the flash disk and total recall images did help. I switched to Administrator securty level, but neither the Start button appeares again. Whats my problem ? :-)

  • Hi Christoph,

If you Press Blue+0 and then scroll to Settings\Task Bar and press enter do you see a checkbox called

    "Show Start Button"

I suspect this is not enabled on that unit

  • Oh my god, Lawrence, life can be so easy with your help :-)  I waste 2h of my lifetime with the terrible Registry editor to get the Start menue back...

One thing I do not understand is, when I reflash system OS in complete and make also a clean start, some configs like "hide start menue" is still stored somewhere. Is there some memory area which is not touched neither from a BooSt clean start nor a OS flash ??

THANKS A LOT for the excellent support,

    Chris

  • Hi Christoph,

Thanks for the feedback, I am glad to hear the good news.

The default config of the CE 4.2 Base OS build and the 7535 G2 OS is to have this checkbox not enabled. So clean starting and/or re-flashing in this case would not help as you noted..

    Hello Christoph,

Windows CE terminals do keep a system file on the Flash Disk that is intended to maintain some system settings through a cold reset.  The file does maintain some parameters that take precedence over default settings in the OS image (or even Total Recall profile).

The file is updated when the terminal is placed in suspend; it can be a good idea to suspend and resume Windows CE devices after configuration changes have been made.

The only way to remove the file (and ensure a truly default OS image) is to perform a clean start on the terminal OS.
