Hi everybody.
we found problems working with commserver 9510 installed in a virutal machine with windows 2008 sever.
this machine is the secondary controller of a redundancy system. The problem we found is that when primary falls, this machine doesn´t take controll as primary.
The issue that we have checked is that in the menu of Redundancy configuration in the area where you see your available interface: (in my computer p.e: [0] Ethernet IP: 10.80.7.14 and [1] Ethernet IP: 192.168.17.1 ) you find it empty. no interface associated, no IP discovered (in the machine of the customer).
If you do by telnet a >show U (command used to check ip, if the controller is primary o secondary, the Alias IP, etc). you see that ip appeard as 0.0.0.0.
Virtual machine has its own IP different from the ip of the phisycal one where is installed. All the firewalls of winserver 2008 are down.
so, my question is, do you know where I can start to look for to try to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
Juan.
Have you restarted the VM after you installed the CommSever software?
Hy Ed, thanks for your comment but I´m affraid it didn´t solve the problem.
Hi Juan,
Good day! Currently, these are the only supported System Requirements.
Operating System:
- Windows 2000 Server SP3 or higher;
- Windows Server 2003;
- Windows XP SP2 or higher
- Windows XP Embedded;
- Windows Embedded Standard;
- Windows XP SP3 in VMware ESXi 3.5 environment;
Thanks,
Alain
Good morning Alain.
Thanks for your reply. Customer already knows that windows 2008 wasn´t already supported with Commservert. The problem is that in this company, by intranet security requirements, they need to work with Windows 2008 server. This´s the reason why they install commserver in this system although they were said of future problems and unsupported problems.
We just wonder if somebody knows of possible solutions of this although we already know Win2008 server is not supported.
Thank anyway by your answer.
Please check with Vlad if we have plans to support Windows 2008.

I presume this is an issue with the ALIAS IP address?
Is the redundancy task running on the primary controller?
"who" or "redu show" when you telnet to the commserver.
The primary controller is working and show the ip correct because is installed in a ordinary PC with a Windows System supported by Psion.
I don't think the original 9500 software was ever supported in a VM either for this reason.
I think you are out of options here unless there's a version for VM coming soon.
Is there a rack mountable 9510 yet ?
XP embedded on the rack mountable one.

SW9500 does support Virtual Computing.
Note that compatibility testing has been performed on the SW9500 CommServer software with VMware ESXi 3.5 virtual server.
Hi Luke,
yes, but as far as we are informed only in a VM with Windows XP and further more only as a single installation, not as a redundand system.
Kind regards

Hi Hans,
When you get a chance, please have a look at PB033. We can also reach out to Vlad and/or Boris for further information.

thanks for the info. At least I was not completely wrong, XP is the recommended OS :-)
Could you try using SW9510 rev. 4.01 instead? There is a fix related to the network interface information parsing in this build.
SW9510 is fully backward-compatible with SW9500.
However, please backup existing SW9500 configuration (save config.usr file), uninstall SW9500, then install SW9510 rev.4.01 (by default it will go into a different directory, under Psion\), copy over the config.usr file and reboot the hardware to make sure the old PTX Watchdog service is gone and new "CommServer Watchdog" service is up and running.
Boris
You are welcome!
Cheers
